Sasha your work inspires me everyday not only in my own art but in my chocolate making. You inspired a bar flavour so I went out bought 5 different oranges cut them up and are in the freeze drier. Once they are dry I grind them into a powder and add them to the grinder with the cacao nibs. I can’t wait to smell the oranges as they release their terpenes. So thank you for this inspiration.

How do you decide on the brownish background color? Is it because it’s kind of the opposite of blue?

Generally, for a quick sketch or a demo I just use neutral background, just burnt umber + ultramarine, or a raw umber, as it is faster to separate the subject from the background. The point of the background is to be quiet and not interfere but support the subject. Generally warm, transparent earth colors work for this.

did you prep that linen board?

What color paints do you like to typically use for the under? Color paint.

Umber?

Do you rub it on or paint it on.

Beginner here.😬

This is just a commercial board (Fredrix). I only stained it beforehand, I prefer working from stained not white surface. The colors I use for staining is usually some earth color left over from previous painting session. Raw umber, or a combination such as burnt sienna+ultramarine, or another good combo is transparent yellow oxide and a small amount of mars black. Sometimes just yellow oxide by itself. It just needs to be transparent and approx Value 5.

Thanks so much for the detailed explanation.

It’s so relaxing to watch the process - can’t explain it…the music is also a nice accompaniment😊

I would love to attend a few art classes someday in the future .

What a privilege to be able to learn in Florence surrounded by such history of old masters. My family is from Florence and I used to spend a month each year in Italy.

Wonderful, thank you, Sasha. Watching you paint this brings some much-welcomed sanity to a world gone mad. Truly, it's what we all need.

A real good painter works with a hand-movement coming from the shoulder, not from the wrist. And that is what Sasha does. It means she feels free and takes all the space but still has control over the brush.

You know I honor your artistic talents and love your watercolors.

You have been “quiet” lately. Is everything ok with you? I don’t want to see you run out of steam. Your work is right on and I sense a lack of focus from RFK,jr. I have said many times that the culling is underway and will continue. Your work is vital for the path to ending the continuation of administering the poison.

Be well

I have been posting a full length substack articles every 2-3 days accompanied by a new artwork each time! So, I am not sure what you mean by "quiet". Also, I prefer not to be chained to social media for 20 hrs a day, and I need my skiing and mountain biking time. Today is day 24 of skiing this season, we are finally getting some great snow dumps and I am heading to my backyard gym in about an hour :)

Good to know you are well and still motivated

TY for all that you do.

What a fabulous treat to see your painting in process! thank you! I am getting back to painting and just LOVE to learn as I watch you beginning the painting with burnt umber! Comparing the photo to your finished demo - I see that you do not attempt to paint everything. You flow with colors & shapes that feel right to you. Whew!

Sasha has the vision and talent to use that brush and makes things beautiful. It was nice to witness the creation of the art. The layering of the colors are outstanding. Knowing how to do that is incredible. I sent the link to my Granddaughter and hoping it will inspire her.

Thanks for sharing this to everyone. I hope you can spend more time doing that in Tahoe or Napa!
